Intermediate Summer School: Week One 27th - 31st July

Intermediate Summer School: Week One 27th - 31st July

£385.00Price

Our summer schools provide an intensive and in depth week spent in our wonderful workshop. They provide 25 hours workshop time - Monday to Friday 10.00 - 3.00

This intermediate level course will suit makers who have completed our previous level one beginners summer school or level one six week course or the equivalent. Get in touch if you aren't sure if this is the right course for you.

Tea and refreshments will be provided each day but please bring your own lunch. Each day will start with a new technique demonstration and there will be a project to work on using that technique for you to complete if you choose to. There will also be time each day to work on your own projects and designs with  support and guidance. We will spend some time in the first session discussing what each student wants to achieve during the week and there will be plenty of space and time to work independently to achieve these goals.

Monday: Press forming: Create your own mould or use a premade shape and create pressed three dimensional forms from sheet metal. You can create single or double sided shapes in plain, textured or patterned metal. Learn to use a fly press, hydraulic press, vice press or just a heavy hammer to press your forms. Suggested project: A hollow form pendant or brooch or a locket with a swivel rivet mechanism.
Tuesday: Riveting with wire and tube: Learn to create your own handmade rivets and how to apply them to create fixed and articulated joins in virtually any material. You can use your rivets functionally or decoratively. Suggested project: A multi layer riveted scene pendant or a swivel rivet locket.
Wednesday: Collet setting for faceted stones from scratch: Create a simple cone shape in sheet metal and set in a round faceted stone. Learn how to create the correct cone for your stone and refine into a beautiful and simple design. Suggested project: A collet set ring
Thursday: Keum Boo. The Korean art of applying 24kt gold foil to fine silver. You'll learn how to prepare both fine and sterling silver and how to cut and apply the foil. Suggested project: Add Keum Boo decoration to your previous makes or create something new

Friday: Free making day and trouble shooting: Continue and complete your projects from previous days and make use of your tutor time to ask any questions about issues and problems you might be having at the bench - ours or your own.
